Devolver Digital tasked us with an exciting challenge: to launch their game, 'Trek to Yomi,' in a way that stayed true to its distinctive black-and-white aesthetic and captivating samurai narrative. Our mission was to craft digital assets that captured the game's cinematic visuals and immersive story while maintaining the unique, atmospheric vibe that fans already loved. The goal was to build excitement without compromising the authentic feel that sets Trek to Yomi apart.
We immersed ourselves in the game's narrative and artwork, allowing Hiroki's journey from a young samurai to a vengeance-driven leader to shape our creative direction. Drawing inspiration from his story, we crafted a series of assets that captured the essence of the game. To ensure authenticity, we explored multiple styles and perspectives, all while staying true to Trek to Yomi's distinctive monochrome aesthetic. Devolver was so impressed with our concepts that they carried them throughout the entire campaign and even asked us to create an animated version, adding a new dimension to the visuals.
Our assets played a pivotal role in the digital campaign, and the response was outstanding. We not only met Devolver's expectations but exceeded them. The animated elements we introduced significantly boosted engagement on video platforms, effectively capturing the attention of players. The visuals we created attracted more eyes to Trek to Yomi, building excitement and anticipation for its release. We even received recognition from the game's developers, Flying Wild Hog, who were delighted with how our work enhanced their vision.
The animated version of our assets truly stood out, bringing key moments from the game to life and making them even more captivating across digital platforms. Every asset, whether static or animated, emphasized the duality of Hiroki’s journey, drawing viewers deeper into the story. With bold contrasts and meticulous attention to detail, our visuals not only aligned with the game’s aesthetic but elevated it, creating a cohesive and powerful campaign that resonated across all channels.
