The 2023 MCV/DEVELOP Awards took place last week and as usual the highest calibre of work and talent the sector has to offer was celebrated long into the night as winners took to the stage applauded by an audience of their friends and colleagues. Diva would like to congratulate all of this year’s winners!
For 25 years, the MCV/DEVELOP Awards have been a special night for the UK games industry, but the 2023 ceremony will stand out for Diva because we had the honour of sponsoring the Games For A Better World category.
Previous winners include Nintendo for Animal Crossing and Emily Mitchell for Fractured Minds - both games that made a profound and genuine impact on those who experienced them. The winner in the category for 2023 was a little different, however, as the accolade did not go to a game - but a collective of people doing great work to explore how, through our massive reach, games can inspire people to act in support of the environment… None other than the Playing for the Planet Alliance.
Their work with member allies in the last year alone (including Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox, Ubisoft, Unity and more) speaks volumes about the vital role the alliance plays to reduce emissions and inspire sustainability awareness in creators and consumers.
It felt right to sponsor this particular award category – which is awarded by a jury – because it is intended to recognise the work games creators do to use our beloved medium for maximum impact and to focus on a Better World. What inspires the jury to make the award each year aligns closely with Diva’s own values of trying to our very best to create great work whilst being a “Good Company”, so our sponsorship seemed the perfect fit.
